5 Martyn Raison

South West

Northern

The number of qualifying places available for the League Finals was determined by the average attendance per meet over the season. This means that Northern region gets one less place than last year (commiserations to Paul Owen who unfortunately misses out) and the Scottish region gets one more. It works out that, on average, there's one qualifying place for every five players in the league.

Please can you let Greg Mott know as soon as possible if you know you won't be at the Show/League Finals as your place can be offered to the person who just missed out, but no further down the league table.

Format
The format will be the same as in previous years; similar to a league meet where players play five machines and their scores are ranked against each other. The player with most points overall wins.

Timing
Last year there was an issue with players trying to compete in both the League Finals and the Classics. This year there is the same problem in that both are held on the Sunday morning. However, this is the only time to fit them both in during the weekend.

To try to make this easier for those who want to compete in both competitions there will be two sessions for the League Finals on the Sunday morning - one at 10.00am and one at 11.30am. As in previous years, you'll play in groups (three players per group this time) so that you get to see and mix with players from other regions.

Please can you let Greg Mott know which session you want to compete in and he'll allocate players accordingly. Places will be awarded on a first come first served basis but in theory we can have a maximum of 12 in each session.

Groups and times will be posted in the middle of next week once all places are confirmed. If you don't contact Greg Mott before then, you’ll be allocated one of the two times.

Please arrive promptly for your games to help ensure it runs as smoothly as possible.

Machines
The machines to be used for the finals will be as follows:
Fish Tales
Addams Family
Dracula
Getaway
Dr Who

Terminator 3 and Tales from the Crypt will be in reserve in case of a breakdown during the finals or unreliability before we start.

These machines were chosen from those available at the show. We've tried to avoid using machines from previous League Finals and also ones which have been used most frequently in the league.

Andy, and those bringing these machines, have been asked to put them near the door. That way, you’ll know which machines are the specific ones to be used in the League Finals and therefore can practice on Saturday. There will be no other opportunity to practice. Hopefully the machines will be labelled.

The machines are to be moved late on Saturday afternoon into the same room that we used for the League Finals last year. Please could a couple of volunteers help move and set up the machines (ie. check levelling) late on Sat afternoon (please email Greg Mott) – you don’t necessarily have to be competing in the League Finals!

04.10.10 – Changes to UK Pinball League & UK Pinball League Finals rules

During the close season several changes have been made to various aspects of the UK Pinball League, namely:

– Meet fees have been reduced from £2.50 to £2.00. In addition, anyone who hosts a meet (but not their family members) will be exempt from paying fees at all other meets they attend in their region during that season.

– One bonus machine point will be awarded to any player whose score on any machine is more than double that of the second placed player on the same machine.

– League points will be awarded to the top fifteen players at each meet with the first placed player getting 15 points down to the fifteenth placed player getting a single point.

The format for the League Finals has also been revised to make them more interesting:

– All sixteen players compete in the first round on four machines with the normal league format ranking all players against each other on all four machines.

– The top eight players from the first round then go through to the semi-finals which are played in two groups of four on three machines with the top two players going through to the final.

– Scoring for the semi-finals is nine points for 1st, five points for 2nd, two points for 3rd and zero points for 4th on each of the three machines. The total of these points over the three machines determines who goes through to the final.

– The semi-final format and scoring is repeated on three machines for the final round.
